9th Grade Bantam Teams for 2017-2018

SL County /Jordan District are no longer running a 9th grade basketball league at the Jordan District Middle Schools.  This means that there will not be a team at Sunset Ridge or West Hills.

In order to fill this void, Grizzlies Youth Basketball will be adding a 9th grade basketball team.  We have worked with the other Jordan District high schools to have their teams play in our Saturday Bantam League in a 9th grade division.  We will be adding one team of 9-11 players from the Copper Hills boundaries.  Other High Schools may enter more than one team, if they choose.

The Grizzlies Youth Basketball 9th Grade Team will play in the Saturday Bantam League at Copper Hills as well as a weeknight SL County Super League (Thursday’s).  They will also play in a couple of tournaments throughout the season.

Tryouts for this team will take place on Friday, November 10 from 5:45 – 7:45 pm at the Copper Hills Main Gym.  It is highly recommended that all 9th grade players interested in playing on this team should also tryout for CHHS Sophomore Basketball Team.

CHHS Sophomore Basketball Tryouts begin Monday, November 6, 5:00 – 7:00 pm.  Please be there ready to go at least 10 minutes early.  In order to compete at the Sophomore tryouts, each player will need to register with Register My Athlete.  Please follow this link to register your son.

Players need to create a profile, register for boys basketball and review and agree to all the waivers.  Players DO NOT need a physical, nor do they pay a participation fee unless they make the Sophomore team.

Requirements for playing on the Grizzlies Youth Basketball 9th grade team will mirror exactly the UHSAA/Jordan District requirements for playing on a high school team.

No students will play on the GYB 9th Grade team that has earned less than a 2.0 grade point average, and/or has more than one F in the first quarter of the 2017-2018 school year.  NG Grades are considered an F.

The coaching staff will be selecting young men to represent Grizzlies Youth Basketball and the community based on the following criteria:

  • Athleticism/basketball skills
  • Ability to play with a team
  • Desire/hustle
  • Willingness to be coached
  • Athletic standing
  • Commitment to off-season improvement

Selecting students to be part of this program is a very difficult task.  The coaching staff will make every effort to give each student a fair opportunity.  We will be selecting players that we feel will make for the best team.
