Welcome to the 3rd season of Copper Hills Youth Basketball. The purpose of this program is to form competitive teams to develop the players and the Copper Hills High School Basketball Program.
This is NOT a recreational basketball program, and our teams are not intended for everyone. This program is not an alternative for the Junior Jazz program. These are competitive teams playing in competitive leagues and have been established to get the best basketball players in the Copper Hills area playing together.
To that end, we will be selecting players to fill the following teams:
3rd Grade – Coached by Andrew Blanchard (CHHS Varsity Head Coach) 1-2 Teams – 8 players on each team.
4th Grade – Coached by Robby McCleve (Veteran Grizzlies Youth Basketball Coach) 1-2 Teams – 8 players on each team.
5th Grade – Coached by Austin McCombs (CHHS Assistant Coach) 1-2 Teams – 8 players on each team.
6th Grade – Coached by John Watkins (CHHS JV Head Coach) 2 Teams – 8 players on each team.
7th Grade – Coached by Tyson Holt (CHHS Assistant Coach 1-2 Teams – 8 players on each team.
8th Grade – Coached by Brian Allfrey (CHHS Sophomore Head Coach) 2 Teams – 8 players on each team.
If we end up with more than one team in an age group, the teams will be divided into an “A” (CH Elite) team and a “B” (CH Grizzlies) Team. Both teams will be coached by the same coach and will practice together.
8th Grade teams may be divided into A (CH Elite) and B (CH Grizzlies) teams, or they may be divided by the Middle School that the players attend (West Hills Middle and Sunset Ridge Middle) Players that make our teams from outside those schools but still in the Copper Hills boundaries will be placed on a team according to the team’s needs. 8th Grade teams will practice with 9th grade teams in the winter.
If we cannot field a competitive team, we may not have any teams in certain grades. We will not field teams that struggle to compete.

Tryouts will be held in the Copper Hills High School Gym
All Players must register for tryouts at www.grizzliesyouthbasketball.com. Click Player Registration at the top of the page. Online Registration will close at 12:00 AM on Wednesday August 27, 2014.
Players will be allowed to register at the door the first night of tryouts for a $10.00 fee.
Please register your son early. This makes it much easier for us to manage the tryout process.
Players must register and tryout for their grade level. Our coaching staff reserves the right to move kids up a grade.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND OTHER FALL SPORTS
If your son plays football or another fall sport, he still needs to attend tryouts. There will not be another tryout session later in the season.
In order for a fall sport athlete to make a Grizzlies Youth Basketball team, they will have to commit to attending at least one practice per week. We will work with players the best we can for games, but players must attend practice so that they do not get too far behind.
All but one age group will be coached by members of the CHHS Boys Basketball Staff. There may be opportunities for Assistant Coaches. Those positions will be handled after the teams have been organized.
The teams will practice 1-2 nights per week. Most weeks, they will practice twice per week. Dates have already been reserved through December.
In order to maintain compliance with district policy, there will be a monthly fee of $40 per player. This needs to be made out to Copper Hills High School and turned in to Brian Allfrey each month. This fee will be in place September – February. If you wish to pre-pay the entire year, your cost will drop to $35.00 per month.
All teams will play in a weekday and a Saturday league in both the fall and winter.
The Weekday league will be a Salt Lake County Super League; the Saturday league will be a Salt Lake Bantam league, with most of our games played at CHHS.
CH Elite teams will play in an upper division; CH Grizzlies teams will play in a lower division.
CH Elite Teams will be purchasing a Uniform/Gear Package that will include Team Shoes, Jerseys, Shorts, Socks and Shooter Shirts
CH Grizzlies will be purchasing a Uniform/Gear Package that will include Jerseys, Shorts, Socks, and Shooter Shirts. Team Shoes will be an optional upgrade for each player, and sold at a substantial discount.
CH Elite Teams
Uniform Package $250.00
Fall Leagues $120.00
Winter Leagues $180.00

TOTAL BASIC EST. FEES $790.00
8TH GRADE TEAMS WILL GET THE CH ELITE UNIFORM PACKAGE
CH Grizzlies Teams
Uniform Package $160.00
Fall Leagues $120.00

These are estimated fees for the entire season (September – February). Actual fees may be lower, but we guarantee they will not be higher. This money will NOT all be due at once. Uniform and Fall League Fees will be due once teams are formed. Winter League Fees will be due in November.
This does not include any additional AAU tournaments during the fall and winter that each team may enter. AAU Tournaments will be decided on by the Team Coaches after discussion with the team parents.
Coaches / playing time
This program is being developed to help your sons become better basketball players and to build the Copper Hills Basketball Program. We ask that you help us build this program and not tear it down. Questions or concerns about the program should be directed to Brian Allfrey. I am happy to have reasonable and productive discussions with parents. At no time, will I or any of our coaches discuss playing time nor will we discuss other members of the team other than your son. These teams are competitive teams and we want them to win. The coaches will be coaching to win. This is not a recreation program and playing time is not guaranteed for any player. If you are looking for experience where everyone gets a trophy and all players play equally, this is not for you. Real life does not work that way and it is good for the kids to learn that they have to earn what they receive.
Academic success is just as important to us as basketball success. All players will be expected to maintain a 3.0 GPA (or equivalent for Elementary School Players).
No player may tryout with less than a 2.0 GPA in the 4th quarter of the last school year. Players with a 2.0 – 2.99 GPA will be put on academic probation and must achieve a 3.0 or higher in the 1st Quarter of this school year to remain in the program. Grade checks will be done periodically throughout the season and at the end of each quarter.
CHANGES TO TEAMS/ROSTERS
We reserve the right to make changes to the team rosters as we deem necessary.
It is very unlikely, but players may be moved from one team to another.
Players that do not attend practice consistently or have behavioral issues may be asked to leave.
We reserve the right to add players to any team at a later date. We will not exceed a total of 8 players per team.
Copper Hills Youth Basketball teams are formed for play in fall and winter. Once the winter leagues have concluded, our season is officially done. At that time, teams/coaches may choose to continue playing in the spring on their own, and those coaches may make whatever roster changes they would like.
COPPER HILLS PRIDE
As our teams compete in these different events, each and everyone one of us represents the basketball program and Copper Hills High School as well as our community. All players, coaches, parents, fans, etc. must conduct themselves in a positive manner. We are the foundation of a great basketball program at a great high school; we kindly ask that you work with us in this endeavor.
