Important Notes for Tryout Participants

For those trying out on Wednesday and Thursday, please arrive at least 15 minutes early and quickly check in.  On Wednesday night, check in will be in the hallway outside of the gym.

I would recommend that all players wear an old shirt with their names written on them.  This helps us to know all of the player and makes the tryout process easier.

Tryout Registration ends TONIGHT at Midnight – No teams have been pre-selected

Tryout registration ends tonight at midnight,  Please register for free before then.  We will be charging $10 for registration at the door on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the last two days we have lowered the participation costs (we are half of other competitive programs) and also rolled out the first of multiple fundraising opportunities to help offset those costs.

Sign up now to get your son involved in Grizzlies Youth Basketball!!

I have had a few questions about teams.  We are hoping for two teams in each age group.  In the right circumstance, we may have a third team, assuming that team could still compete at a competitive level.  Depending on turnout, we may make adjustments to our coaching assignments to better serve the players.

Finally, NO teams have been pre-selected.  We cannot determine teams until we have seen all of the players at tryouts.  By the end of this week, we plan on having the total of number players for each age group selected.  We may need additional time to get the actual teams finalized.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.  Do not simply skip tryouts if you have questions or don’t understand our process.

Thanks,

Brian Allfrey

Fundraising Opportunities for Grizzlies Youth Basketball

We are pleased to announce that Grizzlies Youth Basketball will be holding the First Annual Free Throwathon in early to mid-September.  Will have date locked down this week.

This event will feature each youth player shooting 100 free throws (younger ages will move in closer).  All players will take part in shooting, but those that are interested will solicit pledges for each free throw that they make.  The pledges will range from $0.10 to $2.00 per foul shot.  The more pledges you get and the more shots you make, the more money you raise to pay for your basketball fees.

The best part is that 100% of the money raised goes directly to your son and his fees.  Each player will solicit his own pledges/donations and collect his own money.

We will provide more detail in the coming days as well as a pledge sheet for each player to use.  We also be giving away prizes and posting photos and videos from our free throwathon event.

This is simply a way to help raise money.  We will do 1-2 more player optional fundraising events throughout the season, with all donations going straight to your kids.

Please contact me with any questions.  Thanks

Brian Allfrey

We will not place players on a team if they do not attend.

There will not be another tryout session later in the season.

2014-2015 Grizzlies Youth Basketball Season and Tryout Information

Welcome to the 3rd season of Copper Hills Youth Basketball.  The purpose of this program is to form competitive teams to develop the players and the Copper Hills High School Basketball Program.

This is NOT a recreational basketball program, and our teams are not intended for everyone.  This program is not an alternative for the Junior Jazz program.  These are competitive teams playing in competitive leagues and have been established to get the best basketball players in the Copper Hills area playing together.

To that end, we will be selecting players to fill the following teams:

3rd Grade – Coached by Andrew Blanchard (CHHS Varsity Head Coach)                     1-2 Teams – 8 players on each team.

4th Grade – Coached by Robby McCleve  (Veteran Grizzlies Youth Basketball Coach)  1-2 Teams – 8 players on each team.

5th Grade – Coached by Austin McCombs (CHHS Assistant Coach)                             1-2 Teams – 8 players on each team.

6th Grade – Coached by John Watkins (CHHS JV Head Coach)                                      2 Teams – 8 players on each team.

7th Grade – Coached by Tyson Holt (CHHS Assistant Coach                                        1-2 Teams – 8 players on each team.

8th Grade – Coached by Brian Allfrey (CHHS Sophomore Head Coach)                          2 Teams – 8 players on each team.

If we end up with more than one team in an age group, the teams will be divided into an “A” (CH Elite) team and a “B” (CH Grizzlies) Team.  Both teams will be coached by the same coach and will practice together.

8th Grade teams may be divided into A (CH Elite) and B (CH Grizzlies) teams, or they may be divided by the Middle School that the players attend (West Hills Middle and Sunset Ridge Middle) Players that make our teams from outside those schools but still in the Copper Hills boundaries will be placed on a team according to the team’s needs.  8th Grade teams will practice with 9th grade teams in the winter.

If we cannot field a competitive team, we may not have any teams in certain grades.  We will not field teams that struggle to compete.

Expectations

Coaches / playing time

This program is being developed to help your sons become better basketball players and to build the Copper Hills Basketball Program. We ask that you help us build this program and not tear it down. Questions or concerns about the program should be directed to Brian Allfrey. I am happy to have reasonable and productive discussions with parents. At no time, will I or any of our coaches discuss playing time nor will we discuss other members of the team other than your son. These teams are competitive teams and we want them to win. The coaches will be coaching to win. This is not a recreation program and playing time is not guaranteed for any player.   If you are looking for experience where everyone gets a trophy and all players play equally, this is not for you.  Real life does not work that way and it is good for the kids to learn that they have to earn what they receive.

Grades

Academic success is just as important to us as basketball success.  All players will be expected to maintain a 3.0 GPA (or equivalent for Elementary School Players).

No player may tryout with less than a 2.0 GPA in the 4th quarter of the last school year.  Players with a 2.0 – 2.99 GPA will be put on academic probation and must achieve a 3.0 or higher in the 1st Quarter of this school year to remain in the program.  Grade checks will be done periodically throughout the season and at the end of each quarter.

CHANGES TO TEAMS/ROSTERS

We reserve the right to make changes to the team rosters as we deem necessary.

It is very unlikely, but players may be moved from one team to another.

Players that do not attend practice consistently or have behavioral issues may be asked to leave.

We reserve the right to add players to any team at a later date.  We will not exceed a total of 8 players per team.

Copper Hills Youth Basketball teams are formed for play in fall and winter.  Once the winter leagues have concluded, our season is officially done.  At that time, teams/coaches may choose to continue playing in the spring on their own, and those coaches may make whatever roster changes they would like.

COPPER HILLS PRIDE

As our teams compete in these different events, each and everyone one of us represents the basketball program and Copper Hills High School as well as our community. All players, coaches, parents, fans, etc. must conduct themselves in a positive manner. We are the foundation of a great basketball program at a great high school; we kindly ask that you work with us in this endeavor.

GO GRIZZLIES!!!

Great First Night of Grizzlies Youth Basketball Camp

We had a great first night of Grizzlies Youth Basketball Camp last night.  We had over 80 players there committed to having fun and improving their basketball skills.

We worked on a lot of ball handling and explosion steps before doing some one on one moves. Tonight we will be working on shooting.

There is still time to sign up, just come tonight at 7:00.

As a reminder, tryouts for our Bantam teams will be in two weeks.  Make sure you are ready and that you have registered for tryouts on this website (click Player Registration at the top)

Grizzlies Youth Basketball Camp starts on Tuesday – Don’t miss out

Don’t miss out on the Grizzlies Youth Basketball Fall Camp.

This camp is recommended for all players that are trying out for our youth teams (It gives the players much more time to be seen by our coaches) but is also open to anyone that wants to attend.  Players outside of our boundaries are welcome to the attend the camp as well.

This is also a fundraiser for the boy’s basketball program at CHHS and 100% of the proceeds go directly to that program.

I got an email about a camp at E3 that was coming up.  They were charging $85 for 6 hours of instruction, so our $75 for 12 hours is a real bargain.  It is less that $8 per hour.

Tryout Preparation Camp – $75.00 cost (made out to CHHS) Pay at the door

Tuesday         August 12                  7:00 – 9:00 PM

Wednesday    August 13                  7:00 – 9:00 PM

Tuesday         August 19                  7:00 – 9:00 PM

Wednesday    August 20                  7:00 – 9:00 PM

Thursday       August 21                  7:00 – 9:00 PM

Camp Attendance is not required to tryout, but it is recommended.

Players may attend camp even if they do not intend on trying out for a team
